SIMA: Leading the Way in York Region through Community Engagement and Cultural Celebration.
In the past year, SIMA has built significant partnerships in York Region. SIMA’s active leading role in the community, in collaboration with Women’s Centre of York Region, Routes Connecting Communities, Newmarket Public Library, and Town of Newmarket, led to some significant events.
Norooz at the Library was a celebration of the Persian New Year at the Newmarket Public Library for the first time. The celebration was complemented by the art exhibition at the Library where seniors’ art pieces were displayed for visitors.

Also led by the SIMA team, a deputation was made at the Newmarket Council for the official proclamation of Norooz. The magnificent Haft Seen display at the Town of Newmarket was a step towards recognition of this ancient celebration.

Benefits:
- Cultural Awareness: Celebrations like Norooz promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures.

- Artistic Expression: Exhibitions provide seniors with a platform to showcase their creativity and talent.
- Recognition: Official proclamations and displays help in acknowledging and preserving cultural heritage.
